Hebrews 12 — Run With Endurance

Because of the faithful witnesses, believers must run with endurance, fixing their eyes on Jesus — the Author and Perfecter of faith. Suffering is framed as loving discipline from a Father. Believers must pursue holiness, avoid bitterness, and not trade eternal blessing like Esau. The chapter contrasts Sinai (fear) with Zion (joyful heavenly assembly). God will shake what is temporary, leaving an unshakable kingdom. Worship must be reverent, for God is a consuming fire.

Hebrews 12

Verse 1

Since we’re surrounded, witness cloud,

Voices faithful, strong and loud,

Lay aside what clings so tight,

Every weight that dims your sight.

Sin that wraps around the feet,

Slowly makes surrender sweet —

Throw it off and fix your gaze

On Jesus through the narrow ways.

Chorus

Run the race set before you,

Eyes on Him who brought you through.

Author first and Finisher last,

Joy beyond the cross He passed.

Scorning shame, enduring loss,

Now enthroned beyond the cross.

Verse 2

Consider Him when you grow tired,

When weary thoughts and fear conspire.

You have not yet to blood resisted,

Striving where the cost persisted.

Do not despise the Father’s hand

When discipline you don’t understand.

He corrects the sons He loves,

Trains the heart for things above.

Pre-Chorus

Pain for now — but later peace,

Harvest born of righteousness.

Verse 3

Strengthen knees that shake with strain,

Level paths for healing gain.

Pursue peace with everyone,

And holiness — without it none

Will see the Lord in glory bright;

Guard your heart from bitter root’s bite.

Like Esau trading birthright grace

For one brief hunger’s fleeting taste.

Bridge

You have not come to Sinai’s flame,

To thunder, darkness, trembling frame.

But Zion’s hill and angels’ song,

To heavenly joy where we belong.

To Jesus, mediator true,

To sprinkled blood that speaks anew —

Not vengeance crying from the ground,

But mercy’s better, saving sound.

Final Chorus

See that you do not refuse

The voice that heaven now renews.

For what was shaken once will fall —

But what remains outlasts it all.

An unshaken kingdom stands,

Received with grateful, steady hands.

Our God is holy, fierce in flame —

So worship Him in awe-filled Name.
