Jacob gathers his twelve sons and speaks prophetic words over each, revealing their future destinies as tribes of Israel. Judah receives the promise of kingship—“the scepter will not depart from Judah”—pointing forward to the coming Messiah. Reuben’s instability, Levi’s zeal, and Joseph’s fruitfulness all reflect their character and God’s shaping hand. After blessing them, Jacob commands to be buried in the cave of Machpelah and dies in peace. This chapter testifies that God directs history through imperfect people and that His redemptive plan moves faithfully from generation to generation.
