This song describes Joseph’s sudden elevation before Pharaoh. God reveals seven years of abundance followed by famine. Pharaoh recognizes God’s wisdom in Joseph and appoints him over Egypt.
Two years after interpreting the prisoners’ dreams, Joseph is summoned to Pharaoh, who has dreamed of seven fat cows and seven lean cows, seven full heads of grain and seven thin ones. By God’s wisdom, Joseph interprets the dreams as seven years of abundance followed by seven years of famine. He advises Pharaoh to store grain, and God exalts him to second in command over Egypt. Joseph’s faith and humility turn his suffering into preparation for leadership. This chapter teaches that God’s timing is perfect and that He can raise a forgotten prisoner to a position of purpose to bless nations.
