God commands Jacob to return to Bethel and build an altar. There, God appears again, reaffirms the covenant, and blesses him, repeating his new name—Israel. The journey is marked by loss as Rachel dies giving birth to Benjamin and Isaac later passes away. Yet through grief and transition, God’s promises stand firm. This chapter emphasizes renewal and worship after failure and reminds us that God’s covenant faithfulness outlasts every season of human weakness. Returning to Bethel symbolizes returning to the place of encounter and recommitment with God.
