Genesis 21 fulfills the long-awaited promise of God as Sarah gives birth to Isaac in her old age. The laughter of disbelief becomes laughter of joy, for nothing is too hard for the Lord. Abraham circumcises Isaac in obedience to God’s command, marking him as the child of covenant promise. Yet tension arises when Hagar and Ishmael are sent away. Though painful, God assures Abraham that Ishmael will also become a great nation. In the wilderness, God comforts Hagar and saves her son. The chapter closes with a treaty between Abraham and Abimelek, symbolizing peace and stability. This chapter reminds us that God’s promises are fulfilled in His timing, His mercy extends beyond boundaries, and His word never fails.
