God renews His covenant with Abram, changing his name to Abraham, meaning “father of many nations.” Circumcision becomes the physical sign of belonging to God’s people. God also changes Sarai’s name to Sarah and promises that she will bear a son, Isaac. Abraham’s laughter at the impossibility of the promise reveals both wonder and faith. This chapter emphasizes that God’s covenant is everlasting and based on His power, not human ability. The new names mark transformation—God’s claim upon their lives and His assurance that His promises never fail.
