Genesis 12 begins the story of God’s covenant people. God calls Abram to leave his homeland and promises to make him a great nation, bless him, and through him bless all peoples of the earth. In faith, Abram obeys, traveling to Canaan and building altars to worship the Lord. Even when he falters in Egypt out of fear, God protects him and restores his path. This chapter marks the beginning of salvation history—the moment when God chooses one man to bring forth a people of faith. It teaches that obedience to God’s call brings blessing not only to us, but to generations to come.
