Genesis 11 describes humanity’s prideful attempt to build a tower reaching to the heavens. United by one language, the people seek fame and independence from God rather than obedience to Him. In response, God confuses their speech and scatters them across the earth, halting their self-exalting project. This act of divine intervention reminds us that true unity and progress cannot exist apart from God’s will. The chapter concludes with the genealogy of Shem leading to Abram, showing that even as human pride brings division, God’s plan of redemption continues through a chosen family that will one day bless all nations.
