Galatians 5 is the practical outworking of justification by faith.
1️⃣ Freedom Is the Goal
“Stand firm therefore, and do not submit again to a yoke of slavery.” (Gal. 5:1) Returning to law-based righteousness rejects grace.
2️⃣ Faith Expresses Itself Through Love
Galatians 5:6 clarifies: What counts is faith working through love. Not circumcision, not ritual — but transformed living.
3️⃣ Freedom Is Not License
Christian liberty is not permission for sinful indulgence (Gal. 5:13). True freedom leads to loving service.
4️⃣ Flesh vs. Spirit
There is an internal conflict between sinful nature (“flesh”) and the Spirit (Gal. 5:16–17).
5️⃣ Works of the Flesh vs. Fruit of the Spirit
Paul lists behaviors that characterize unrepentant fleshly living (Gal. 5:19–21). In contrast, the Spirit produces fruit — singular fruit with multiple expressions (Gal. 5:22–23).
6️⃣ Crucified with Christ — Continued Theme
Believers have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires (Gal. 5:24), echoing Galatians 2:20.
Core message: Freedom in Christ is not lawlessness — it is Spirit-led love.
Galatians 5 answers the question: If we are not under law — how do we live? Answer: By the Spirit.
Galatians 5 — Stand Firm in Freedom
📖 Song Lyrics
For freedom Christ has set us free,
So stand, don’t bow to slavery.
Don’t trade the cross for measured gain,
Don’t wear again the yoke of chains.
If you rely on law to stand,
You fall from grace by your own hand.
To add one rule to Calv’ry’s plea
Is to deny sufficiency.
Chorus
Stand firm in freedom, don’t turn back,
Don’t lace your heart with legal tracks.
For faith through love is what remains,
Not ritual marks or outward claims.
In Christ alone we find our ground —
No boast in flesh, no pride in sound.
The Spirit leads, the Spirit frees,
And bears His fruit in lives like these.
You were called to liberty,
But not for flesh’s tyranny.
Don’t let your freedom turn to sin —
Let love be how you walk within.
For all the law is summed in one:
“Love your neighbor as God’s Son.”
But if you bite and tear apart,
You wound the body, break the heart.
Verse
Walk by the Spirit, not the flesh —
The old desires will still press.
For flesh and Spirit wage their war,
But Christ has opened freedom’s door.
The works of flesh are plain to see:
Jealous rage and impurity,
Division, envy, drunken nights —
These paths do not inherit light.
But the fruit the Spirit grows
Is different than the flesh that shows:
Love and joy and peace that stays,
Patience through uncertain days,
Kindness flowing, goodness bright,
Faithfulness that stands in fight,
Gentle strength and self-control —
These mark the Spirit-formed soul.
Bridge
Those who belong to Christ the King
Have crucified that former thing.
So keep in step with heaven’s pace,
Don’t chase the pride of empty race.
Let us not grow in vain conceit,
Provoking rivals we must beat.
For freedom walks in humble tone —
A Spirit-led life fully grown.
Final Chorus
Stand firm in freedom, Christ has won,
The battle fought, the victory done.
Not bound by law, nor loose in sin —
But Spirit-shaped from deep within.
Through love we serve, through grace we stand,
Not by our strength but by His hand.
