Galatians 3 shifts from personal defense to theological proof.
Paul confronts the Galatians sharply for turning back to law-based thinking (Gal. 3:1–5). He reminds them:
1️⃣ The Spirit Came Through Faith.
They received the Holy Spirit not by keeping the law, but by believing the gospel.
2️⃣ Abraham Was Justified Before the Law.
Galatians 3:6 cites Genesis 15:6 — Abraham believed God, and it was credited to him as righteousness. This happened centuries before the Mosaic Law.
Therefore: Righteousness has always been by faith.
3️⃣ The Law Reveals Sin — It Does Not Remove It.
The law brings a curse because no one perfectly keeps it (Gal. 3:10). But Christ redeemed us from that curse by becoming a curse for us (Gal. 3:13), referencing Deuteronomy 21:23.
4️⃣ The Promise Precedes the Law.
God’s covenant promise to Abraham came 430 years before the law. The law does not cancel the promise (Gal. 3:17).
5️⃣ The Law Was a Guardian.
The law functioned as a temporary tutor or guardian until Christ came (Gal. 3:24). Now that faith has come, believers are sons and daughters of God through Christ.
Key verse: “There is neither Jew nor Greek… for you are all one in Christ Jesus.” (Gal. 3:28)
This chapter anchors the truth: Salvation has always been by grace through faith — from Abraham to today.
Christ fulfills both promise and law.
Galatians 3
Verse 1]
Oh foolish hearts, who pulled you back?
Who placed new chains upon your back?
You saw Him lifted, crucified —
Why trade that grace for human pride?
Did you receive the Spirit’s flame
By rule and ritual, name and claim?
Or did He come when faith believed
The risen Christ you had received?
[Chorus]
It was by faith, by faith alone,
Not by the works our hands have done.
Before the law on Sinai’s stone,
The promise stood, the seed was sown.
Abraham believed the Word,
And God called righteous what He heard.
Not by merit, not by might —
But trusting in the Living Light.
[Verse 2]
Four hundred years before the law,
God gave a promise, firm and sure.
The covenant was not undone
When Moses climbed the mountain run.
The law revealed the hidden stain,
Showed every heart its need and shame.
It spoke the curse none could escape —
No perfect soul in Adam’s shape.
[Chorus]
It was by faith, by faith alone,
Not by the works our hands have done.
Before the law on Sinai’s stone,
The promise stood, the seed was sown.
Abraham believed the Word,
And God called righteous what He heard.
Not by merit, not by might —
But trusting in the Living Light.
[Bridge]
Cursed is everyone who fails
To keep the whole law without fail.
But Christ became that curse for me,
To set me free, my soul to see.
He bore our sins upon His frame,
Redemption’s blood, a holy claim.
No chains of law can bind me now,
For faith in Christ has set my vow.
[Chorus]
It was by faith, by faith alone,
Not by the works our hands have done.
Before the law on Sinai’s stone,
The promise stood, the seed was sown.
Abraham believed the Word,
And God called righteous what He heard.
Not by merit, not by might —
But trusting in the Living Light.
[Outro]
So lift your voice, proclaim His grace,
In every trial, find your place.
For in His promise we are whole,
Embraced in love, redeemed our soul.
We stand if we believe the truth,
Shouting freedom in His name, our proof.
