In fulfillment of Jeremiah’s prophecy, God stirs the heart of Cyrus king of Persia to allow the Jews to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple. Cyrus issues a decree, returning the sacred temple vessels Nebuchadnezzar had taken and inviting Israelites to go home. God moves leaders, priests, and families to leave exile, and their neighbors support them with gifts. The chapter marks the beginning of restoration after decades of captivity.
Christ-Foreshadowing: Cyrus releasing the exiles points to Christ, who sets people free from spiritual captivity and restores worship.
