Ezekiel 6 — Teaching Notes / Biblical Summary

God commands Ezekiel to prophesy against the mountains of Israel, the locations of idol worship and pagan practices. The destruction of altars and idols reveals the emptiness of false gods and the seriousness of Israel’s spiritual adultery.

Yet even within judgment, God preserves a remnant. Those who survive exile will remember the Lord, recognize their sin, and loathe their former idolatry. The chapter emphasizes that judgment is meant to restore truth, not merely to punish.

Christ-Foreshadowing

The destruction of idols prepares the way for true worship. This points forward to Christ, who alone is worthy of worship and who cleanses hearts from idols so that people may worship God in spirit and truth.

Ezekiel 6

“Against the Mountains”

Verse 1

The word of the Lord came clear and strong,

“Son of man, you’ve waited long.

Set your face where idols rise,

Speak to the hills beneath the skies.”

Pre-Chorus

Altars built on every height,

Sacred poles dressed in false light.

What they worshiped would not save,

Stone and wood — a silent grave.

Chorus

Against the mountains I speak this day,

Every idol will be swept away.

Altars broken, incense stilled,

What they trusted will be spilled.

They will know — when all is done —

I am the Lord, the Holy One.

Verse 2

The slain will fall where idols stood,

Bones before what they called good.

Cities emptied, land laid bare,

Judgment echoing everywhere.

Pre-Chorus 2

Yet some will flee, a scattered few,

Carried far, but hearts made new.

They’ll remember Me in distant lands,

Loathing the works of their own hands.

Chorus

Against the mountains I speak this day,

Every idol will be swept away.

Altars broken, incense stilled,

What they trusted will be spilled.

They will know — when all is done —

I am the Lord, the Holy One.

Bridge

I was crushed by hearts untrue,

By wandering eyes and vows they knew.

They’ll grieve themselves for all they’ve done,

When truth is seen and mercy won.

Outro / Anchor Line

Not one word spoken fell in vain,

What I declared has not been claimed.

Through judgment’s fire, a truth is shown:

I am the Lord — and I am known.
