Ezekiel 35 pronounces judgment against Mount Seir, representing Edom, for its long-standing hatred toward Israel. Edom is condemned not merely for political hostility, but for rejoicing in Israel’s destruction and taking advantage of Judah’s calamity. Rather than showing restraint or mercy, Edom actively participated in violence and celebrated the downfall of God’s people. God declares that because Edom loved bloodshed, bloodshed will pursue it, leaving the land desolate and empty.
The chapter also confronts Edom’s attempt to claim Israel’s land, exposing its arrogance and disregard for God’s presence and covenant. God promises to judge Edom publicly so that the nations will see the consequences of pride, hatred, and mockery toward His people. The judgment of Mount Seir serves as a necessary contrast to the restoration promised for Israel, demonstrating that God’s justice is impartial and that hostility toward His covenant purposes will not stand.
Ezekiel 35 foreshadows Jesus Christ by contrast. Edom represents hostility toward God’s redemptive plan and rejoices in the suffering of God’s people. In Christ, God ultimately judges such opposition while securing restoration for those who belong to Him. Where Edom sought to seize the inheritance through violence, Christ secures the inheritance through obedience, humility, and righteous authority.
Ezekiel 35 — “Judgment on Mount Seir”
Full Song Lyrics
Verse 1 — Set Your Face
The word of the Lord came unto me
Son of man, listen carefully
Set your face against Mount Seir
Proclaim My judgment — make it clear
Because you held eternal hate
And watched My people’s broken state
You gave them over to the sword
In their distress — you ignored the Lord
Chorus
You rejoiced when Israel fell
You loved her ruin, wished it well
But what you planned will turn on you
The Lord repays what hearts pursue
Verse 2 — Blood Will Pursue
You did not hate bloodshed — no
So blood will chase you where you go
I will make Mount Seir a waste
No traveler left, no dwelling place
Those fleeing fall, the strong collapse
Your mountains fill with slain perhaps
Then you will know, when all is done
I am the Lord — the Holy One
Chorus
As you delighted in her pain
So pain will mark your land again
What you declared with mocking breath
Returns to you — says the Lord of death
Verse 3 — Claiming the Land
You said, “These lands will soon be mine”
You claimed what God had set divine
Though I was there — you did not fear
You spoke against Me — loud and clear
So I will judge before the nations’ sight
Your boasts exposed, your end in light
You will bear shame for all you said
When Israel rises from the dead
Final Chorus — The Lord Declares
As you rejoiced when she was torn
So will the earth rejoice at morn
When you are judged and laid low fast
A lesson written from the past
Outro
Thus Mount Seir will stand no more
The Lord has spoken — sealed in war
