Ezekiel 29 —Teaching Summary / Biblical Meaning

God pronounces judgment against Egypt and Pharaoh, who is compared to a great monster of the Nile claiming the river as his own. Pharaoh’s pride and self-reliance deny the Lord, so God declares He will drag him from the waters and leave Egypt desolate.

Egypt will be scattered for forty years, reduced from a world power to a lowly kingdom. God’s purpose is clear: Egypt’s fall will prove that false strength and human pride cannot rival the Lord. God also explains that Babylon’s campaign against Tyre was hard labor, and Egypt will be given to Babylon as wages — showing that God rules even over international events.

Christ-Foreshadowing

Ezekiel 29 exposes false saviors and false security. Where Pharaoh claimed life and power for himself, Christ is the true source of life. Jesus does not exalt Himself over nations but humbles Himself to save them, offering a kingdom not built on pride, but on obedience and truth.

Ezekiel 29 — “The Dragon in the Nile”

Song Lyrics

Verse 1 — Pharaoh Confronted

The word of the Lord came unto me

Son of man, set your face and speak

Against Pharaoh, king of Egypt

And all his rivers that he trusts

You say, “The Nile is mine alone

I made it by my strength and throne”

But you forget who formed the sea

And set its bounds — it wasn’t thee

Chorus

You claim the river, you claim the land

But life is held in another hand

The waters rise, the waters fall

At the voice of the Lord of all

Verse 2 — The Hook and the Fall

I’ll put a hook into your jaw

Pull you out by sovereign law

Fish will cling to your pride and might

Dragged to desert, stripped of sight

You and all who followed you

Will fall beneath the open blue

No burial song, no resting place

Left as carrion in disgrace

Chorus

You were a staff that splintered through

When Israel leaned, it broke in two

You promised strength but failed in need

A broken reed — a false decree

Verse 3 — Forty Years

So Egypt’s land will lie laid bare

Desolate fields, empty air

Forty years the sword will roam

A humbled land, no royal throne

Yet after years of measured pain

I’ll gather Egypt once again

A lowly kingdom, never more

To rule the nations as before

Verse 4 — Wages for Babylon

Nebuchadnezzar bore My will

Against Tyre he labored still

Yet gained no spoil for all his might

So Egypt now becomes his right

I give him Egypt for his pay

For work done on My chosen day

Thus all will know the Lord Most High

Rules kings and empires passing by

Final Chorus — A Future Hope

In that day a horn will rise

For Israel before all eyes

I will open mouths once sealed

And truth once more will stand revealed

Outro

Then they will know — when all is done

I am the Lord, the Holy One
