God pronounces judgment on Tyre because she rejoiced over Jerusalem’s destruction and sought to profit from it. God declares that many nations will come against her like the waves of the sea. The prophecy describes a prolonged and overwhelming destruction, including siege, plunder, and the scraping of the city down to bare rock.
Tyre’s fall is portrayed as shocking to surrounding nations and rulers. Her power, wealth, and influence vanish, leaving her a desolate coastal ruin. The chapter emphasizes that economic strength and strategic location cannot protect a nation that exalts itself over God’s purposes.
Ezekiel 26 reminds us that pride built on gain and exploitation will fall. Christ later teaches the opposite kingdom — one not built on profit, but on humility, justice, and love for the fallen.
Ezekiel 26
“Many Nations Like the Sea”
Verse 1
The word of the Lord came clear and strong,
“Son of man, hear this wrong.
Tyre has laughed when Zion fell,
‘Now the gate is mine,’ she said well.”
Pre-Chorus
Because you rejoiced at another’s pain,
Profit rose where blood still stained.
You said, “I will be filled at last,”
So judgment comes — the die is cast.
Chorus
I will bring many nations against you,
Like waves that rise and crash right through.
Walls will fall and towers sink,
Stone by stone into the deep.
You will know when all is done:
I am the Lord — the Sovereign One.
Verse 2
Horses pound, the dust ascends,
The noise of chariots never ends.
Your gates are breached, your streets run bare,
The sword walks through what once was fair.
Pre-Chorus 2
Your wealth is plundered, your trade undone,
Your songs are silenced, the music gone.
I will scrape you to the rock,
A place for nets where waves will knock.
Chorus
I will bring many nations against you,
Like waves that rise and crash right through.
Walls will fall and towers sink,
Stone by stone into the deep.
You will know when all is done:
I am the Lord — the Sovereign One.
Bridge
Kings will tremble on the shore,
At the sound of your downfall’s roar.
Princes weep and cast down crowns,
When the merchant queen is drowned.
Outro / Anchor Line
You will be sought, but not be found,
Brought to terror, laid to ground.
The sea will keep what pride once built —
The Lord has spoken, judgment’s sealed.
