God charges Jerusalem with systemic sin. Bloodshed, idolatry, injustice, sexual immorality, and contempt for God’s laws fill the city. Every level of leadership is implicated: princes exploit, priests profane, prophets deceive, and officials abuse power.
God compares Jerusalem to a furnace meant to refine silver but filled only with dross. The chapter ends with a devastating truth — God searched for someone to stand in the gap, to intercede and prevent destruction, but found no one. Judgment comes not only because of sin, but because no one would confront it.
The absence of an intercessor prepares the way for Christ — the One who would finally stand in the gap, bear judgment, and intercede for sinners when no one else could.
Ezekiel 22
“No One to Stand”
Verse 1
The word of the Lord came once again,
“Son of man, judge the city of blood — then.
Expose her deeds, name every stain,
Let truth fall hard like driving rain.”
Pre-Chorus
You shed blood within your walls,
Built idols high, ignored My calls.
You hastened judgment by your way,
Brought near the day you feared would stay.
Chorus
City of blood, weighed and found untrue,
I scattered you for what you do.
You stand defiled before the land,
A mockery held in every hand.
You will know when all is done:
I am the Lord — the Holy One.
Verse 2
Father and mother dishonored still,
The stranger crushed by greedy will.
The poor despised, the helpless torn,
My Sabbaths scorned, My name forsworn.
Pre-Chorus 2
Princes devoured like wolves at night,
Prophets lied, called darkness light.
Priests profaned what should be clean,
Blurred the line of what is seen.
Chorus
City of blood, weighed and found untrue,
I scattered you for what you do.
You stand defiled before the land,
A mockery held in every hand.
You will know when all is done:
I am the Lord — the Holy One.
Bridge (Refiner Image)
Like dross thrown into blazing fire,
Silver burned by false desire.
I gathered you inside the flame,
To melt the lies, reveal the name.
Verse 3 (Final Blow)
I searched for one to take a stand,
To build the wall, defend the land.
To stand before Me, breach the gap —
But no one answered, no one stepped.
Outro / Anchor Line
So judgment fell without delay,
The cost of silence had its say.
When truth was needed, none would stand —
And so I judged the land.
