God commissions Ezekiel as a prophet to the house of Israel, calling him “son of man” to emphasize both his humanity and his role as God’s representative. The Spirit empowers Ezekiel to stand and listen. God warns him that the people are rebellious and stubborn, but Ezekiel’s responsibility is obedience, not results.
The scroll filled with lament and woe prepares Ezekiel for a difficult message, reminding us that God’s truth must be spoken even when it is unwelcome. Faithfulness to God’s word is the measure of success.
Ezekiel, called “son of man,” foreshadows Christ, who would also be sent to a resistant people, speak God’s words faithfully, and stand firm regardless of rejection.
Ezekiel 2
“Stand on Your Feet”
Verse 1
A voice spoke out of the fire and the light,
Calling my name in the still of His might.
“Son of man, rise, stand on your feet,
I have a word for you to speak.”
Pre-Chorus
The Spirit entered when He spoke the call,
Lifted me up though I’d just seen it all.
From glory’s weight to a prophet’s task,
He gave me strength, then He began to ask.
Chorus
Stand on your feet, I’m sending you now,
To a stubborn people with hardened brows.
They may not hear, they may refuse,
But they will know My messenger stood true.
Verse 2
To a nation rebellious, unfaithful and proud,
Children who speak defiance aloud.
Hard of heart and stiff of face,
Yet still they are called by My name and grace.
Pre-Chorus 2
Do not fear them or their words,
Though thorns surround you, though scorpions stir.
Whether they listen or turn away,
My word must still be what you say.
Chorus
Stand on your feet, I’m sending you now,
To a stubborn people with hardened brows.
They may not hear, they may refuse,
But they will know My messenger stood true.
Bridge
He held a scroll before my eyes,
Written with sorrow, grief, and cries.
Yet still His voice was firm and clear:
Speak My words — do not fear.
Outro / Anchor Line
Son of man, the call is sure,
Faithfulness matters more than cure.
Whether they listen or walk away,
You stand and speak what I say.
