While Moses is on the mountain, the people grow impatient and persuade Aaron to make a golden calf. They worship the idol, breaking the covenant they just received. God’s anger burns, but Moses intercedes, pleading for mercy. When he descends and sees their sin, he breaks the tablets in grief, symbolizing the broken relationship. This chapter reveals the danger of impatience and idolatry—how easily people replace the unseen God with visible substitutes. Yet it also displays the power of intercession and God’s willingness to forgive those who turn back to Him.
