God begins giving Moses laws to guide Israel’s new life as a free people. These laws address servants, personal injury, and property rights—establishing order, fairness, and compassion. Justice is tempered by mercy; punishment is measured, not cruel. This chapter reminds us that freedom from bondage requires structure for righteousness. God cares about how His people treat one another, especially the vulnerable. These laws show that holiness is not only about worship, but also about daily conduct rooted in love and respect for human dignity.
