Moses is born during Pharaoh’s decree to kill Hebrew infants. His mother hides him until she can no longer, then places him in a basket on the Nile, trusting God. Pharaoh’s daughter finds and raises him, while his own mother unknowingly becomes his nurse. When grown, Moses defends a Hebrew slave and flees to Midian, where he marries and tends sheep. God hears Israel’s cries and remembers His covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. This chapter shows that God’s deliverers are formed in obscurity and that His compassion never forgets His people’s pain.
