In the night, the king cannot sleep—a divine interruption. He calls for the royal chronicles to be read, and the record of Mordecai saving the king is brought before him. Realizing Mordecai was never honored, the king asks Haman for advice on how to reward a man the king delights to honor. Haman, thinking the king means him, suggests an extravagant public parade. To his humiliation, he is ordered to bestow this honor upon Mordecai.
Haman returns home in grief, his downfall already unfolding. The timing of God’s providence is unmistakable: the very night before Haman planned to kill Mordecai, God exposes the plot, reverses Haman’s pride, and begins lifting up His servant.
Christ-Foreshadowing: The reversal of honor—where the humble are lifted and the proud are brought low—foreshadows Christ, who exalts the lowly and triumphs over evil through God’s sovereign timing.
