This chapter confronts the tragedy of having abundance without the ability to enjoy it. Honor, wealth, and long life are meaningless if satisfaction is absent. Human desire remains restless and unsatisfied, and death ultimately levels all distinctions.
The Teacher emphasizes that meaning cannot be achieved through circumstances alone.
Jesus offers rest for the soul and satisfaction that does not depend on possessions or longevity.
Ecclesiastes 6 — “Never Satisfied”
Song Lyrics
Verse 1
I’ve seen a sorrow under the sun,
A heavy truth we try to outrun.
A man with riches, honor, and name,
Yet joy never comes though he has the gain.
God gives wealth, gives years, gives breath,
But not the power to taste what’s left.
Another eats what he can’t enjoy,
A bitter end to promised joy.
Chorus
What good is gold if the heart stays dry?
What good is gain if the soul asks why?
Eyes want more, but never rest,
Desire keeps asking, “What comes next?”
This too is vapor, slipping through,
A chasing wind no wealth can do.
Verse 2
Though he lives a thousand years twice over,
And sees no good as days roll colder,
All still walk the same last mile,
Death shows up without a smile.
Better a stillborn, never seen,
Than a life where joy’s never been.
Rest comes quicker to the unseen,
Than endless days that feel unclean.
Chorus
What good is gold if the heart stays dry?
What good is gain if the soul asks why?
Eyes want more, but never rest,
Desire keeps asking, “What comes next?”
This too is vapor, slipping through,
A chasing wind no wealth can do.
Verse 3
All our labor feeds the mouth,
Yet appetite cries hunger out.
What advantage has the wise,
If wants keep ruling hungry eyes?
The poor who know how to walk their way
May fare as well as kings who stray.
Better to see what’s in your hand,
Than chase a dream you cannot land.
Bridge
Who knows what’s good in mortal days,
Few and fleeting as a haze?
Who can tell what waits beyond,
When we’re gone and stories end?
Final Chorus
Teach my heart to receive Your grace,
Not measure life by a restless chase.
Let contentment be my sight,
Joy received, not forced by might.
Better what is than what I crave,
Better the gift than the dream I save.
Outro
Apart from You, I still want more…
With You, I finally rest my soul.
