Ecclesiastes 5 Teaching Notes / Biblical Summary

The focus shifts to worship and wealth. The Teacher warns against approaching God casually, making rash vows, or assuming words impress Him. God is to be feared, not manipulated.

Wealth is also exposed as unreliable. The love of money increases anxiety, not peace, and possessions often benefit others rather than their owner. Contentment comes from receiving life as God’s gift, not from accumulation.

Christ fulfills true worship by drawing hearts toward sincerity and reverence rather than empty words or external display.

Ecclesiastes 5 — “Guard Your Steps”

Guard your steps when you draw near,

Let your listening be sincere.

Fewer words, a reverent heart,

This is where true worship starts.

God is high, we stand below,

Heaven hears what earth can’t know.

Dreams multiply with restless speech,

But silence bows within His reach.

Let my heart belong to You.

Not empty vows, not careless praise,

But fear of God in all my ways.

When you vow, don’t delay,

God takes no joy in empty say.

Do not say, “It was a mistake,”

When truth is what your promise takes.

Why invite His righteous hand

To undo what you had planned?

More possessions, more to keep,

More eyes watching while you sleep.

As goods increase, so do mouths,

Only seeing, never enough.

Naked came and naked go,

Grasping wind, still nothing holds.

Eat and drink gratefully.

Find contentment day by day,

Joy God gives along the way.

Every breath, each earned reward,

Is a gift from God the Lord.
