The Teacher turns his attention to oppression, isolation, and rivalry. Power often exploits the powerless, and success breeds envy rather than peace. Those without companionship are especially vulnerable, while shared labor and mutual support are shown as blessings.
The chapter emphasizes that human systems often fail to protect the weak, and that isolation magnifies suffering.
Jesus identifies with the oppressed and gathers a people defined not by competition, but by love, service, and shared burden-bearing.
Ecclesiastes 4 — “Two Are Better Than One”
Verse 1
I looked again at the world below,
Saw tears that fall where power grows.
The oppressed cry out, unheard, unseen,
While comfort stands with the ruling scene.
On one side pain with no relief,
On the other hand, authority.
No one to dry the weeping eye,
No one asking the reason why.
Chorus
And I saw the weight of being alone,
A life lived quiet, unseen, unknown.
Better one day with a faithful friend
Than a thousand nights that never end.
Two are better than one, it’s true,
Strength is found when hearts walk through.
Verse 2
I saw a man with endless drive,
No son, no brother, no shared life.
Eyes never full, hands never rest,
Working hard, but never blessed.
“For who do I labor, day and night?
Why deny my soul delight?”
This too is empty, this too is vain,
A lonely road with heavy gain.
Chorus
And I saw the weight of being alone,
A life lived quiet, unseen, unknown.
Better one day with a faithful friend
Than a thousand nights that never end.
Two are better than one, it’s true,
Strength is found when hearts walk through.
Verse 3
Two who work will share the load,
If one should fall, the other holds.
Two who walk can face the cold,
Two stand strong when nights grow old.
A cord entwined, not quickly torn,
Strength is born where love is formed.
Though kings may rise and crowds may cheer,
Alone we fade, together we endure.
Bridge
Better a poor man, wise and heard,
Than a king who ignores the warning word.
Fame fades fast, the crowd moves on,
What was praised is quickly gone.
Final Chorus
So I choose the gift of shared repair,
Hands that lift and hearts that care.
Not wealth alone, not power won,
But faithful love till life is done.
Two are better than one, it’s true,
God was there when He made us two.
Outro
No one was meant to stand alone…
We were made for more than stone.
