Moses remembers the defeat of Og, king of Bashan, whose immense stature symbolized an impossible enemy. Yet nothing is impossible for God. Israel conquered Og and received the land east of the Jordan, which was allotted to Reuben, Gad, and the half-tribe of Manasseh. Moses then recounts his own plea to enter the Promised Land—a request God denied due to Moses’ earlier disobedience. Instead, God instructs Moses to strengthen Joshua, who would lead the people forward. This chapter teaches that God is the true source of every victory and that His purposes continue through the leaders He appoints.
Christ-Foreshadowing: Jesus is the greater Joshua who brings His people into the eternal Promised Land.
