As Moses recounts Israel’s wilderness years, he reminds them that their long wandering was not aimless — it was governed by God’s hand. Israel was forbidden to fight Edom, Moab, or Ammon, because God had also given those lands to the descendants of Esau and Lot. God honored His promises even to nations outside Israel. Only Sihon of Heshbon opposed Israel, and God gave them victory. This chapter reveals God as the sovereign Lord over all nations and teaches His people to trust His timing, His boundaries, and His purposes even in seasons that feel like wandering.
Christ-Foreshadowing: Jesus also leads His people step by step, guiding them with wisdom through every wilderness.
