Daniel 9 records Daniel’s response to Scripture as he realizes the seventy-year exile foretold by Jeremiah is nearing its end. He prays a profound prayer of confession on behalf of Israel, acknowledging sin and appealing to God’s mercy and covenant faithfulness. While Daniel is still praying, the angel Gabriel arrives with a message of hope: God has appointed a redemptive plan that will ultimately deal with sin, restore righteousness, and fulfill His purposes. The chapter highlights repentance, mercy, and God’s faithfulness to His promises.
The prophecy of the coming “Anointed One” who will be cut off points forward to Christ, whose sacrifice deals decisively with sin and brings everlasting righteousness. Daniel 9 frames redemption not as human achievement, but as God’s gracious act accomplished through His Messiah.

Full Song Lyrics
Verse 1 — The Time Noted
I read the words the prophets wrote,
Jeremiah’s promise clearly spoke.
Seventy years of ruin and pain,
Then mercy would rise again.
So I turned my face to seek the Lord,
With fasting, sackcloth, tears outpoured.
Ashes marked my humbled plea,
As I bowed in captivity.
Verse 2 — A Prayer of Confession
O Lord, You keep Your covenant sure,
Faithful, righteous, just, and pure.
We have sinned, rebelled, and turned away,
Ignored Your truth, refused Your way.
To us belongs our shameful face,
To You alone — mercy and grace.
We did not listen, would not obey,
So exile came, just as You’d say.
Chorus — Not Because of Us
Not because of us, not righteous deeds,
But for Your name and mercy we plead.
Turn Your anger, restore Your land,
Forgive Your people by Your hand.
Verse 3 — The Plea for Restoration
O Lord, look down on Your desolate place,
Let Your light return in grace.
For Your city, called by Your name,
Remove our reproach, end our shame.
Hear us now, forgive and act,
Do not delay — Your promise stands.
We trust Your mercy, not our worth,
Restore Your people on the earth.
Chorus — Not Because of Us
Not because of us, not righteous deeds,
But for Your name and mercy we plead.
Turn Your anger, restore Your land,
Forgive Your people by Your hand.
Verse 4 — Heaven Responds
While yet I prayed, before I ceased,
Gabriel came with urgent speech.
“O Daniel, greatly loved,” he said,
“I’ve come to give you insight ahead.”
Seventy weeks are marked in time,
To end transgression, cleanse the crime.
To seal the vision, make all right,
And bring in everlasting light.
Bridge — The Promise Given
An Anointed One will come in peace,
Then cut off — the cost released.
The city shaken, trials remain,
Yet God’s set end will surely reign.
Outro — Hope Secured
So I stood in awe of heaven’s plan,
God’s mercy written over man.
Though judgment comes, His grace is near,
The end is sure… the Lord is here.
