Amos 9 opens with a vision of inescapable judgment. God stands at the altar, declaring that no place exists beyond His reach. Heaven, Sheol, land, sea — all creation answers to Him.
Israel is reminded that election does not mean exemption. God is sovereign over all nations, yet He also promises preservation. Israel will be sifted, not destroyed — judgment separates the faithful from the rebellious.
The chapter turns dramatically toward hope. God promises to restore the fallen house of David, expand blessing to the nations, and bring unprecedented abundance. Amos ends not in ruin, but in secure restoration, where God plants His people permanently in the land.
Amos 9 directly foreshadows Christ through the restoration of David’s fallen booth. This promise finds fulfillment in Jesus — the Davidic King who restores the kingdom and brings the nations into God’s covenant.
The sifting anticipates Christ’s refining work, while the promise of permanent planting points to eternal security in God’s kingdom through Him.
Amos 9 — “I Will Raise the Fallen Booth”
Full Song Lyrics
Verse 1 — The Vision at the Altar
I saw the Lord by the altar stand
He spoke — and the pillars shook the land
“Strike the capitals, make thresholds fall
Let fragments crash on every wall
Those who flee, none will escape
Those who hide, I’ll find their shape
Though they dig down to Sheol’s floor
Or climb to heaven — I’m there before
Chorus — No Escape
There is no shadow I cannot see
No depth, no height beyond Me
Judgment comes by sovereign hand
No one slips… from My command
Verse 2 — Nowhere to Hide
If they hide on Carmel’s crest
I’ll search them out — deny their rest
If they sink beneath the sea
I command the serpent — it answers Me
If they go before their foes
I command the sword — it goes
I fix My eyes upon their way
Not for good… but judgment day
Chorus — No Escape
You crossed My law, you broke the vow
You face My justice… here and now
The earth obeys My sovereign word
Creation bows… before the Lord
Verse 3 — The Sovereign Lord
The Lord who touches earth — it melts
All who dwell feel what they’ve felt
He builds His chambers in the sky
Foundations laid… before time’s cry
He calls the waters of the sea
Pours them out — what must be, be
The Lord of Hosts — His name declared
No force exists… beyond His care
Bridge — Israel Not Exempt
Are you not like Cush to Me?
Israel, hear — impartiality
Did I not bring Philistines too
From Caphtor’s coast? Arameans through?
I watch the sinful kingdom fall
Yet not destroy them — not at all
I’ll sift them through the nations wide
But not one grain… the true will slide
Verse 4 — The Sifting
All My people who claim no fear
Say, “Disaster won’t draw near”
By the sword they’ll surely fall
Their confidence… their final wall
Chorus — A Remnant
Yet not all dust will fall away
Not all seed will lose its way
The shaking clears, the true remain
Grace preserved… through righteous pain
Verse 5 — Restoration
In that day I’ll raise again
David’s booth — the broken tent
I’ll mend its walls, restore its frame
Rebuild as in the former days
That they may possess what once was lost
The nations called by My own cost
Declares the Lord — whose power stands
To do these things… by His hands
Verse 6 — Abundance
The days are coming — harvest runs
Before the reaper’s work is done
The treader meets the sower’s feet
Mountains drip with wine so sweet
I’ll bring My people back to land
They’ll rebuild ruins by My command
They’ll plant and drink, they’ll tend and eat
Secure again… complete
Outro
I’ll plant them firm where roots go deep
No more uprooted — Mine to keep
The Lord has spoken — hope made sure
Judgment fell… restoration pure
