Amos 3 explains why Israel’s judgment is unavoidable. God reminds Israel that their unique relationship with Him brings greater responsibility, not exemption. Because they were chosen and known by God, they are held to a higher standard.
The prophet uses a series of cause-and-effect questions to demonstrate that judgment does not occur randomly. Disaster follows sin just as sound follows action. God emphasizes that He does nothing without revealing His plans to the prophets — therefore, the warnings Israel has heard are not empty threats.
Foreign nations are summoned as witnesses to Israel’s injustice, observing the violence, oppression, and stolen wealth hidden in palaces. Judgment will strip Israel of false security, leaving only a remnant. The chapter ends with the destruction of idolatrous worship and luxurious excess.
Amos 3 foreshadows Christ as the ultimate Prophet who speaks what the Father reveals. Where Israel ignored prophetic warnings, Christ comes as the Word made flesh — impossible to silence or ignore.
The remnant imagery anticipates salvation through grace, fulfilled in Christ, who preserves a people not by strength or status but by divine mercy.
Amos 3 — “The Lord Has Spoken”
Full Song Lyrics
Verse 1 — Chosen and Accountable
Hear this word the Lord has said
Against the family He led
Out of Egypt’s iron chain
You alone I truly claimed
From every clan beneath the sky
You were known before My eye
So I will punish every sin
Because you knew… and turned within
Chorus — You Were Chosen
You were chosen — not to boast
But to walk the narrow road
Greater light, the heavier call
Chosen first… accountable
Verse 2 — The Questions
Do two walk on unless agreed?
Does a lion roar with no need?
Does a trap spring up in vain?
Does disaster come without My reign?
When the trumpet sounds alarm
Do not people shake in harm?
When the Lord speaks judgment clear
Who can fail… to prophesy fear?
Chorus — Cause and Effect
Nothing breaks the chain unseen
Every cause… its traced routine
What you face did not arrive
By chance alone — I am alive
Verse 3 — The Prophets
The Sovereign Lord reveals His plan
To prophets — faithful, chosen men
When the lion roars, they cry
God has spoken — who denies?
Bridge — The Witnesses
Proclaim it loud on foreign walls
In Ashdod’s streets and Egypt’s halls
See the chaos, see the greed
Oppression ruling… need on need
They store up violence in their keep
They do not know what’s right to keep
Their palaces hold stolen gain
Built on tears… and others’ pain
Verse 4 — The Enemy
So an enemy will surround
The land laid low, your strength unbound
Your fortresses will not remain
Your wealth plundered… stripped of claim
Chorus — A Remnant
Like a shepherd snatches small
From lion’s jaws — a leg, a call
So Israel will barely stand
A fragment saved… by God’s own hand
Verse 5 — Bethel Judged
Hear this, testify, declare
Against Jacob’s house of care
On Bethel’s altars I will fall
Horn by horn… they crumble all
Winter house and summer fade
Ivory halls in ruin laid
The great and small will meet one end
Declares the Lord… whose words descend
Outro
The lion roared — the truth is plain
The warning given… not in vain
The Lord has spoken — judgment stands
None can silence… God’s command
