Amos 2 completes the circle of judgment begun in chapter 1. Moab is condemned for desecrating the dead, revealing contempt for human dignity. Judgment then moves decisively to Judah, who is judged not for ignorance but for rejecting God’s law.
Finally, the focus lands on Israel. Their sins are detailed extensively: injustice, exploitation of the poor, sexual immorality, and corrupt worship. Israel abuses both people and sacred spaces, profaning God’s holy name.
God reminds Israel of His past grace — deliverance from Egypt, victory over the Amorites, provision in the wilderness, and the gift of prophets and Nazirites. Israel’s rejection of these gifts makes their guilt undeniable. The chapter ends with total collapse — no strength, speed, or courage can withstand the coming judgment.
Amos 2 anticipates Christ as the righteous One whom Israel sold and rejected. Where Israel exploited the poor and silenced prophets, Christ stands as the faithful Prophet, the oppressed Servant, and the fulfillment of the law Judah despised.
The collapse of human strength points forward to salvation that cannot be achieved by power or speed, but only through reliance on God — ultimately fulfilled in Christ alone.
Amos 2 — “You Sold the Righteous”
Full Song Lyrics
Verse 1 — Moab
For Moab’s sins, I will not turn
They burned the bones of kings to burn
To lime they crushed what should have stayed
Honor erased… the dead betrayed
So fire will fall on Moab’s land
Kerioth falls by My command
With battle cry and trumpet sound
The judge is struck… the princes downed
Chorus — The Circle Closes
The fire moves, the ring is tight
From distant lands to covenant light
No nation stands beyond My law
No people pass… what I foresaw
Verse 2 — Judah
For Judah’s sins, I will not stay
They cast My law and walked away
They did not keep My statutes true
The lies they chased… their fathers knew
So fire will fall on Judah’s walls
Jerusalem’s stronghold finally falls
Chorus — The Circle Closes
Truth rejected, law despised
Covenant words… minimized
What once was light now burns as flame
Because they scorned… My name
Verse 3 — Israel
For Israel’s sins — too many now
They sold the righteous anyhow
For silver gain, the poor for shoes
Justice crushed… the needy lose
They trample heads into the dust
Turn from the way of humble trust
Father and son the same bed share
My holy name… stripped bare
Verse 4 — Corrupt Worship
They lie beside each pledged-in coat
At every altar — mocking oath
They drink the wine the fined have paid
In God’s own house… their guilt displayed
Bridge — Remembered Grace
Yet I destroyed the Amorite
Tall as cedars, strong in fight
From root to branch I swept them clear
To give you land… without your fear
I brought you from Egypt’s chain
Led forty years through desert pain
I raised your sons to speak My truth
Your young men vowed — Nazirite youth
But you made Nazirites drink the wine
And told My prophets, “Do not prophesy”
Verse 5 — The Crushing
Now I will press you where you stand
Like loaded carts that crush the land
The swift won’t flee, the strong won’t stay
The warrior’s heart… melts away
Archer falls, the runner slows
Horse and rider — overthrown
Even the brave will shed his gear
And flee unclothed… in naked fear
Outro
The fire has reached the chosen land
The covenant broken… by their own hand
Grace remembered, mercy spurned
Now judgment stands… because they learned
