Acts 6 — Teaching Notes / Biblical Summary

Acts 6 marks structural growth and the beginning of intensified persecution.

Key events:

  • Complaint arises between Hellenistic and Hebrew believers over neglected widows.
• The Twelve appoint seven Spirit-filled men to oversee food distribution.
• Apostles remain devoted to prayer and ministry of the Word.
• Stephen and six others are chosen and commissioned.
• The Word of God spreads; disciples increase; many priests believe.
• Stephen performs signs and wonders.
• Members of the Synagogue of the Freedmen dispute with him.
• They cannot resist his wisdom and Spirit.
• False witnesses accuse him of speaking against Moses and the temple.
• Stephen is brought before the Sanhedrin.
• His face appears like that of an angel.

Christ-Foreshadowing (Acts Lens)

Acts 6 reveals Christ as:

  • The Head organizing His growing Church
• The Giver of wisdom no opponent can overcome
• The One whose servant reflects His glory under trial
• The Lord advancing His mission through structure and suffering

Stephen mirrors Christ in calmness before accusation.

Full of Faith and Power”

(Verse 1)

As disciples multiplied,

A complaint began to rise,

Hellenistic widows said

Their daily needs were left aside.

The Twelve called all the church to stand,

“It’s not our call to serve the bread

While leaving prayer and Word behind —

Choose seven faithful men instead.”

(Pre-Chorus)

Full of Spirit, full of grace,

Wisdom shining in their face.

(Chorus)

Let the Word of God increase,

Let the ministry not cease,

Prayer and truth must lead the way,

As servants rise to serve each day.

Hands laid on, appointed strong —

The Church moves forward, growing on.

(Verse 2)

Stephen chosen, faith-filled, bright,

Philip standing in the light,

Prochorus and Nicanor,

Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus more.

Before apostles they were brought,

Hands were laid as blessing sought.

The Word of God spread wide and far,

Even priests believed who were once afar.

(Chorus)

Let the Word of God increase,

Let division find its peace,

Order formed in humble grace,

Strength and unity embrace.

From Jerusalem it flows —

The Kingdom steadily grows.

(Verse 3)

Stephen, full of power and might,

Worked great wonders in plain sight.

Freedmen rose to argue there,

From Cyrene and Alexandria’s care,

Cilicia and Asia joined the fight —

Yet none could match his Spirit-lit light.

They stirred the crowd with twisted claim,

“He speaks against the Law and Name.”

False men said, “We heard him tell

Of temple fall and change as well.”

They seized him fast and dragged him through

Before the council’s hardened view.

All who sat in that stern place

Saw his calm and shining face —

Like an angel standing still,

Steady in the Father’s will.

(Final Chorus)

Let the Word of God increase,

Through trial, through hostility,

Servants rise and truth stands tall,

No lie can make the Spirit fall.

Faithful hearts in wisdom move —

The risen Christ they prove.
