Acts 3 — Teaching Notes / Biblical Summary

Acts 4 records the first persecution of the Church.

Key events:

  • Peter and John are arrested while preaching resurrection.
• Many believe — total number reaches about 5,000 men.
• They are brought before the Sanhedrin (Annas, Caiaphas, rulers).
• Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, proclaims Jesus as the source of healing.
• He quotes Psalm 118 — the rejected stone becoming the cornerstone.
• He declares salvation found in no other name.
• The council recognizes their boldness and that they had been with Jesus.
• The healed man stands as undeniable evidence.
• They are threatened and ordered to stop preaching.
• Peter and John refuse to be silent.
• The believers gather and pray for boldness — not safety.
• The place is shaken.
• They are filled again with the Spirit.
• The church shares possessions in unity.
• Barnabas sells land and gives proceeds.

Theme progression:
Miracle → Arrest → Proclamation → Threat → Prayer → Greater boldness → Unity.

Opposition increases — Gospel advances.

Christ-Foreshadowing (Acts Lens)

Acts 4 reveals Christ as:

  • The rejected stone becoming cornerstone
• The only Name by which salvation comes
• The risen Lord opposed by rulers
• The fulfillment of Psalm 2 (nations raging)
• The exalted King continuing His work

The apostles are bold because Christ reigns.

Acts 4 No Other Name”

(Verse 1)

As Peter spoke within the court,

Priests and captains cut him short,

Sadducees were greatly stirred,

Angered at the preached word —

Teaching that in Jesus’ Name

Resurrection had been proclaimed.

They seized them both before night fell,

Held them fast in guarded cell.

Yet many heard and did believe,

Five thousand men the word received.

(Chorus)

By the Name of Jesus Christ,

Whom you crucified, whom God raised to life,

This man stands healed before your sight —

There is no other Name.

No other Name under heaven given,

By which we must be saved.

(Verse 2)

Rulers gathered, elders near,

Annas, Caiaphas sitting there,

“By what power or by what name

Have you done this?” they proclaimed.

Peter filled with Spirit fire

Spoke before the council choir:

“If we are judged for kindness shown

To one once helpless, lame and alone,

Let all Israel understand —

It is Jesus by whose hand

This man stands whole before you now —

The stone you builders disallowed.”

(Pre-Chorus)

Rejected stone — yet cornerstone,

Salvation found in Him alone.

(Chorus)

By the Name of Jesus Christ,

Whom you crucified, whom God raised to life,

This man stands healed before your sight —

There is no other Name.

No other Name under heaven given,

By which we must be saved.

(Verse 3)

They saw their boldness, unafraid,

Unlearned men — yet not dismayed,

They knew they had with Jesus been,

And could not deny what stood between —

The healed man present, standing there,

Living proof beyond compare.

Threats were spoken, voices raised,

“Speak no more in Jesus’ Name.”

But Peter answered firm and plain,

“Judge yourselves if this is sane —

To listen more to you than God?

We cannot cease what we have saw.”

(Bridge — Prayer Rising)

Released, they gathered with one accord,

Lifted their voices unto the Lord:

“Sovereign Master, heaven and sea,

You spoke through David prophetically,

Nations rage and rulers stand,

Against the Lord, against His plan.

Grant Your servants holy boldness,

Stretch Your hand in signs and wonders.”

The place was shaken where they prayed,

All were filled and unafraid,

Spoke the Word with courage strong,

Christ exalted all along.

(Final Chorus — Strong)

By the Name of Jesus Christ,

The risen Lord enthroned on high,

No threat can silence Heaven’s flame —

There is no other Name.

Cornerstone forever laid,

By which alone we are saved.

(Outro)

One heart.

One soul.

One Name proclaimed.
