Acts 15

Genre & Vibe

Deliberate and weighty at first, then unifying and hopeful. Strong proclamation with steady momentum.

“No Greater Burden”

Some men came from Judea’s side,

Teaching, “Unless you’re circumcised,

As Moses wrote and Law commands,

You cannot in salvation stand.”

Paul and Barnabas opposed

The teaching that salvation’s closed.

So up to Jerusalem they went

To settle this contentious event.

A council gathered — elders, apostles,

Much debate in crowded hallways.

Peter rose and spoke with care,

“Brothers, hear what God did there.

He chose that through my mouth the Word

Would reach the Gentiles who had heard.

God who knows the human heart

Gave them Spirit from the start —

Just as He did unto us,

Making no dividing wall thus.

Why then test God by a yoke

Our fathers never fully bore?

We believe through Jesus’ grace

Both Jew and Gentile find their place.”

Chorus

No greater burden shall we lay

Than what the Lord has made the way.

Through grace alone we stand as one —

Saved by the risen Son.

Silence fell as Barnabas

And Paul declared what God had passed:

Signs and wonders seen among

The Gentiles hearing Heaven’s song.

Then James stood firm and quoted word

From prophets Israel once had heard:

“After this I will restore

David’s tent forevermore,

So the nations seek the Lord —

All called by My holy Name.”

“Therefore let us not distress

Gentiles turning in repentance,

But write to them to turn away

From idols’ stain and moral decay,

From blood and strangled sacrifice —

So fellowship may still suffice.”

The council agreed in unity,

Sent a letter faithfully

By Judas and Silas’ hand

Back to Antioch’s growing band.

When it was read, great joy was shown —

Encouragement and peace were known.

Paul proposed another round

To visit churches they had found.

Barnabas wished Mark to take,

Paul refused for mission’s sake.

Sharp disagreement split their way —

Barnabas with Mark set sail.

Paul chose Silas, strengthened still,

Entrusted to the Lord’s own will.

And so the churches were made strong,

Increasing daily all along.

Chorus

No greater burden shall we lay —

Grace alone has cleared the way.

Through trial, through decision won,

The Church stands firm in Christ the Son.
