God Shows No Partiality”

In Caesarea lived a man,

Cornelius by name and hand,

Centurion of the Italian band,

God-fearing in a foreign land.

He gave to poor and prayed each day,

Till an angel came to say,

“Your prayers and gifts have reached God’s sight —

Send to Joppa without delay.

Call for Simon, Peter named,

He will speak what must be gained.”

In Joppa on the rooftop high,

Peter prayed at noon nearby.

Hungry, waiting for the meal,

He saw a vision God revealed:

A sheet descending from the sky,

Creatures walking, flying by.

“Rise, kill and eat,” the voice declared.

“Not so, Lord — unclean,” he shared.

“What God has made clean, do not call

Common anymore at all.”

Three times this was shown again —

Then the vision came to end.

While Peter pondered what it meant,

Men from Cornelius were sent.

The Spirit said, “Go without fear —

I have sent these men here.”

Peter traveled north that day,

Entered where the Gentiles lay.

Cornelius bowed before his feet —

“Stand up — I’m just a man you meet.”

“God has shown me something new:

No partial line divides His view.

In every nation, those who fear

And practice right are welcome here.”

He spoke of Jesus, Nazareth born,

Anointed by the Spirit sworn,

Doing good, healing oppressed,

Yet crucified at man’s request.

God raised Him on the third day bright,

Appeared to chosen witnesses’ sight.

He is Judge of living and dead —

Through His Name forgiveness spread.

While Peter yet was speaking still,

The Holy Spirit fell at will.

They spoke in tongues and magnified —

The Jewish believers stood surprised.

“Can water now be held from these

Who’ve received the Spirit’s breeze?”

In Jesus’ Name they were baptized,

Gentile hearts now justified.

Refrain

God shows no partiality.

Through Christ comes liberty.

From Jew to Gentile, near and far,

The risen Lord breaks every bar.
