Christ-Foreshadowing (Acts Lens)

Christ is:

  • The fulfillment of Isaiah’s suffering servant
• The One who unites Jews, Samaritans, and Gentiles
• The risen Lord directing His mission

Scattered to Samaria”

On that day a storm broke wide,

Great persecution multiplied.

Saul approved as Stephen fell,

And havoc spread through every cell.

House to house he dragged away

Men and women bound that day.

All were scattered from the city —

All but apostles chose to stay.

Yet those scattered did not hide,

They carried Christ wherever they’d stride.

Philip went to Samaria’s land,

Preaching Christ with lifted hand.

Unclean spirits cried aloud,

The lame and paralyzed were bowed —

Then raised to walk; great joy filled town,

As many heard the saving sound.

Refrain

From Jerusalem it flows —

Through trial still the Gospel goes.

No chain, no threat, no scattered road

Can stop the risen Lord.

Simon once amazed the crowd,

Boasting power, speaking loud.

But he believed and was baptized,

Watching signs with widened eyes.

When apostles heard the news,

Peter, John came to review.

They prayed and laid their hands on those

That Holy Spirit might be known.

Simon saw and offered gold,

“Give me this power,” he boldly told.

Peter answered, stern and plain,

“Your heart is not in God’s domain.

Repent and pray your sin forgiven —

This gift is not for sale or driven.”

An angel said to Philip, “Go,

To Gaza’s desert road below.”

An Ethiopian traveled there,

Reading Isaiah with puzzled care.

“Do you understand?” he was asked.

“How can I without one to guide?” he answered fast.

The Scripture spoke of One oppressed,

Like a lamb to slaughter led,

Silent though unjustly tried —

Of whom is this?” the traveler cried.

Philip preached from that same place

Jesus’ death and risen grace.

They came upon some water near —

“What keeps me now?” he asked sincere.

He went down and was baptized,

Came up rejoicing, opened eyes.

The Spirit carried Philip on,

To Azotus preaching on,

Through every town till he arrived

In Caesarea spreading life.

Refrain

From Jerusalem it flows —

Through Samaria the river grows.

From desert road to distant throne,

The risen Christ is known.
