Hebrews 6 — Severe Warning and Strong Hope

Hebrews 6 urges believers to move beyond foundational teachings toward maturity. It then issues a severe warning about deliberate apostasy — not weakness, but hardened rejection after full exposure to truth. Yet the tone shifts to reassurance: God is not unjust to forget their faithfulness. Using Abraham as an example, the writer highlights God’s unbreakable promise confirmed by oath. This produces hope — described as an anchor for the soul, reaching behind the veil where Jesus has entered as our forerunner.

 

Hebrews 6 — “An Anchor Within the Veil”

Verse 1

Leave behind the starting ground,

Repentance laid, foundation found —

Faith toward God, baptisms known,

Hands laid on, the risen throne.

Resurrection, judgment day —

These are truths that paved the way.

But we are called to grow beyond,

To press ahead and travel on.

Not circling truth we’ve always known,

But building where the seed was sown.

Press on, press forward in the light,

Do not drift, do not lose sight.

Grow beyond the early flame,

Mature in faith, not just in name.

Verse 2

For those who’ve tasted heaven’s grace,

Seen the Spirit’s holy trace,

Shared in truth and goodness known,

Yet turn away from what they’ve known —

If they reject the Son again,

There’s no new cross to cleanse their sin.

Not weakness here, not moment’s fall —

But hardened hearts that close the call.

Verse 3

Land that drinks the falling rain

Yet bears no fruit from grace’s gain

Risks the fire, the field undone —

But fruit reveals what God has done.

Yet we are sure of better things,

Of faithful love that clings and clings.

God is not unjust to miss

The work of love you show in this.

Bridge

Hold the hope without delay,

Imitate those who obey.

Abraham believed the Word,

Waited long for what he heard.

God swore by Himself alone,

Since none were higher than His throne.

Two unchanging things secure —

His promise and His oath endure.

Final Chorus

We have this hope — an anchor strong,

Holding firm when nights are long.

It enters past the veil inside,

Where Jesus stands — our forerunner guide.

A priest forever, standing sure —

Our hope in Him secure.
