Hebrews 4 — The Rest That Remains

The promise of entering God’s rest still stands. Israel failed to enter because they did not unite the message with faith. Joshua did not provide ultimate rest; a deeper Sabbath rest remains. This rest is ceasing from self-reliant striving and trusting in God’s completed work. The Word of God is living and piercing, exposing hearts. Yet believers have a great High Priest who sympathizes with weakness. Therefore, we may approach the throne of grace with confidence. Rest is found in Christ Himself.

Hebrews 4 — “There Remains a Rest”

Verse 1

A promise still is standing wide,

Not sealed by time, not set aside.

Though wilderness once closed the door,

The offer echoes still once more.

Fear lest we should fail to see

The rest prepared so graciously.

They heard the word yet did not blend

It deep with faith — and reached no end.

Pre-Chorus

Good news spoken then and now,

But faith must seal the vow.

Not hearing only — entering in,

Trusting where the eyes grow dim.

Chorus

There remains a rest for the people of God,

Not earned by strength, not climbed by odds.

Cease from striving, lay burdens down,

Step from the desert to holy ground.

Today if you hear Him calling your name,

Do not harden — enter by faith.

Verse 2

For God once rested on that day

When light and life had found their way.

Creation finished, work complete —

Sabbath calm, divinely sweet.

Yet centuries rolled like shifting sand,

And still the rest was close at hand.

Joshua led through Jordan’s tide —

But deeper rest still waited inside.

Verse 3

The Word of God is living flame,

Sharper than the finest blade.

It pierces soul and spirit through,

Divides what’s false from what is true.

No thought concealed, no motive masked,

All laid bare when hearts are asked.

Before His eyes we stand exposed —

To whom our lives are fully known.

Bridge

Yet we do not approach alone.

A High Priest sits upon the throne.

Jesus passed through heaven’s veil,

Tempted, tried — yet did not fail.

So let us then with confidence draw near,

To mercy’s throne without fear.

Grace to help in time of need —

Strength for weary hearts to plead.

Final Chorus

There remains a rest secure,

Kept in Christ forever pure.

Come in faith, do not delay —

His voice is calling still today.

Cease from striving, trust His grace,

Find your Sabbath in His embrace.
