  1. Overview

Jude writes to believers who are called, beloved in God the Father, and kept for Jesus Christ. Before issuing warning, he anchors identity. The church’s security rests in God’s calling and Christ’s keeping power.

Jude originally intended to write about the shared salvation of believers, but a crisis required intervention. Certain individuals had secretly infiltrated the church. They distort grace into moral license and deny Jesus Christ as Master and Lord.

This letter is a call to contend for the faith once for all delivered to the saints — meaning the apostolic gospel does not evolve, adapt, or dilute.

    1️⃣

    The Pattern of Judgment (v.5–7)

Jude reminds believers of historical examples that prove proximity to salvation does not guarantee perseverance:

    • Israel — delivered from Egypt, yet destroyed in unbelief.
    • Rebellious angels — abandoned their proper dwelling and are kept in chains.
    • Sodom and Gomorrah — indulged in sexual immorality and faced judgment.

    The pattern is clear:
Deliverance does not excuse rebellion.
Grace is not permission for corruption.

    2️⃣

The Character of False Teachers (v.8–16)

Jude describes the infiltrators with striking imagery:

    They:

    • Reject authority.
    • Blaspheme spiritual realities.
    • Follow Cain (self-made religion).
    • Follow Balaam (greed and compromise).
    • Follow Korah (rebellion against God’s order).

    Metaphors reveal their emptiness:

    • Hidden reefs at love feasts (dangerous beneath the surface).
    • Shepherds feeding themselves.
    • Clouds without rain.
    • Fruitless trees uprooted.
    • Wild waves casting shame.
    • Wandering stars destined for darkness.

They promise freedom and spirituality but produce corruption and instability.

Jude even references Enoch’s prophecy, emphasizing that the Lord will come with holy ones to execute judgment. False teaching is not trivial — it invites divine accountability.

    3️⃣

The Response of the Faithful (v.17–23)

Instead of fear, Jude calls believers to stability:

    • Remember the apostles’ warnings.
    • Build yourselves up in your most holy faith.
    • Pray in the Holy Spirit.
    • Keep yourselves in the love of God.
    • Wait for the mercy of Jesus Christ unto eternal life.

Discernment must be paired with compassion:

    • Have mercy on those who doubt.
    • Rescue some from the fire.
    • Show mercy with fear — guarding against contamination.

The church must contend without becoming harsh or corrupted.

    4️⃣

    The Final Assurance (v.24–25)

Jude closes with one of the strongest doxologies in Scripture:

God is able to keep you from stumbling.
He will present you blameless before His glory with great joy.

The letter begins with warning — but ends with worship.

Contending for the faith does not rely on human strength.
It rests in divine preservation.

    ✝️

    Christ Anchor — Jude

Jude is saturated with Christ even in warning.

    Christ is:

    • The Master and Lord denied by false teachers.
    • The Deliverer who saved Israel from Egypt.
    • The Coming Judge who executes justice on rebellion.
    • The Mercy believers wait for unto eternal life.
    • The One who keeps His people from falling.
    • The Presenter who brings us blameless before God with joy.

    Where false teachers distort grace,
Christ guards it.

    Where rebellion invites darkness,
Christ preserves His own.

    Where instability threatens,
Christ keeps.

    Jude’s message is this:

    Contend —
but rest in the One who keeps you.

Jude — “Contend”

Verse 1 — Identity First

To those who’re called and kept secure,

Beloved in God forever sure.

Mercy, peace, and love increase —

In Christ your steady peace.

I longed to write of saving grace,

Our common hope, our shared embrace —

But now I write with urgent tone:

Contend for faith once handed down.

Chorus

Contend for the faith once delivered,

Guard what was given, stand unshaken.

Grace is not a door to sin —

The Lord we trust is Lord within.

Verse 2 — The Infiltration

Certain ones have slipped inside,

Twisting grace and living pride.

Denying Jesus as the Lord,

Turning freedom to reward.

Remember how the Lord once saved

A people from the bondage grave —

Yet those who would not trust His name

Were judged beneath His flame.

Pre-Chorus

Angels fell from place assigned,

Sodom burned for lustful mind.

Verse 3 — The Pattern

Cain’s own path and Balaam’s greed,

Korah’s voice of rebel seed.

Hidden reefs at sacred meal,

Clouds with rain they never feel.

Fruitless trees in autumn dry,

Wild waves casting shameful cry.

Wandering stars in endless night —

Darkness waits beyond their sight.

Bridge — The Coming Lord

The Lord will come with thousands strong,

Judging all for hidden wrong.

Every boast and hardened word

Will answer to the Holy Lord.

Yet you, beloved, build and pray,

Keep His love and watch the day.

Wait for mercy still to rise —

Eternal life before your eyes.

Final Chorus — The Keeper

Have mercy where the doubting stand,

Rescue some with steady hand.

Now to Him who keeps you sure,

From stumbling and from sin’s allure —

Blameless, joyful, glory’s throne,

Through Jesus Christ alone.

Amen.
