Genesis 38 — Judah and Tamar

In contrast to Joseph’s integrity, Genesis 38 recounts Judah’s moral failure. He marries a Canaanite woman, and his sons act wickedly, dying under God’s judgment. Tamar, his daughter-in-law, is wronged and takes bold action to secure justice. When Judah realizes her righteousness, he repents, saying, “She is more righteous than I.” This chapter reminds us that God’s grace works even in flawed families and that from this very line—through Tamar—will come King David and ultimately the Messiah. God’s redemption shines brightest through the humility of repentance and restoration.
