Paul urges the Corinthians not to waste the grace of God. The present moment is urgent — salvation is now.
He defends his ministry by listing hardships endured and virtues displayed. True apostleship is proven not by ease but by endurance and integrity.
Paul describes paradoxes of Christian life — suffering yet rejoicing, poor yet enriching others. Ministry looks weak but carries eternal power.
He then shifts to covenant separation. Believers must not be “unequally yoked” with unbelievers in ways that compromise loyalty to Christ. The imagery draws from Deuteronomy and temple language.
Because believers are the temple of the living God, they are called to holiness and separation from idolatry. Paul quotes from Leviticus, Isaiah, and 2 Samuel, affirming God’s covenant promise to dwell with His people.
Major themes:
This chapter reflects Christ as the faithful Servant who endured suffering without compromise.
The call to separation echoes Israel’s covenant identity — now fulfilled in Christ, who makes His people the living temple of God.
The promise “I will be a Father to you” finds fulfillment through Christ’s reconciliation.
He is the obedient Son, the Holy Temple, and the One who brings us into the Father’s family.
2 Corinthians 6
(Verse 1)
Working together with Him,
We appeal to you —
Do not receive
The grace of God in vain.
For He says,
“In a favorable time I listened to you,
And in a day of salvation I helped you.”
Behold — now is the favorable time.
Now is the day of salvation.
(Chorus)
We put no obstacle in anyone’s path,
So the ministry will not be blamed.
In every way we commend ourselves
As servants of God —
Through endurance,
Through hardship,
Through faithful love.
(Verse 2)
In afflictions,
In imprisonments,
In riots,
In labor and sleepless nights —
In purity, knowledge, patience, kindness,
In the Holy Spirit,
In sincere love —
Through truthful speech
And the power of God.
(Verse 3)
Through honor and dishonor.
Through slander and praise.
Treated as impostors — yet true.
As unknown — yet well known.
As dying — yet behold, we live.
As sorrowful — yet always rejoicing.
As poor — yet making many rich.
As having nothing — yet possessing everything.
(Bridge)
Our heart is wide open to you.
You are not restricted by us —
But by your own affections.
In return — open your hearts also.
Do not be unequally yoked
With unbelievers.
What partnership has righteousness
With lawlessness?
What fellowship has light
With darkness?
(Ending)
We are the temple of the living God.
“I will dwell among them
And walk among them.”
Therefore — come out from among them.
Be separate.
Touch no unclean thing.
“I will be a Father to you,
And you shall be My sons and daughters,”
Says the Lord Almighty.
