God renews the covenant promise given to Abraham, assuring Jacob of His presence and protection. When Jacob awakens, he declares, “Surely the Lord is in this place,” and sets up a stone pillar, naming it Bethel, meaning “House of God.” This chapter shows that God meets people in their weakness and loneliness, turning ordinary places into holy ground.
