Ezekiel 25 —Teaching Notes / Biblical Summary

Ezekiel 25 begins a new section of the book: judgment against the surrounding nations.

Each nation is judged not merely for political hostility, but for their heart posture toward God and His people.

  • Ammon is judged for mocking Judah’s destruction
  • Moab for denying Israel’s unique covenant identity
  • Edom for violent revenge rooted in ancient hatred
  • Philistia for persistent hostility and vengeance

These judgments affirm that:

  • God holds all nations accountable, not only Israel
  • Rejoicing over God’s discipline of His people invites judgment
  • Long-standing grudges do not excuse cruelty

God’s repeated phrase — “Then they will know that I am the Lord” — shows that judgment serves a revelatory purpose, not mere punishment.

Christ-Foreshadowing (Ezekiel 25)

Ezekiel 25 foreshadows Christ through God’s universal justice and righteous judgment over the nations.

  1. The Lord as Judge of All Nations
God judges Gentile nations directly, showing His authority extends beyond Israel.
This anticipates Jesus Christ, to whom all judgment is entrusted (John 5:22; Acts 17:31).
  2. Judgment Based on the Heart’s Response
The nations are judged not just for actions, but for attitudes — mockery, pride, vengeance.
Christ later reveals the same standard: hearts exposed, motives weighed (Matthew 12:36).
  3. Vindication of God’s People
God personally defends His covenant people against those who rejoice in their suffering.
This points forward to Christ as the defender and vindicator of His people (Romans 8:33–34).
  4. “They Will Know That I Am the Lord”
The repeated recognition formula anticipates the day when every knee bows and every authority recognizes Christ’s lordship (Philippians 2:10–11).

Ezekiel 25 — “Judgment on the Nations”

Song Lyrics

Verse 1 — Against Ammon

The word of the Lord came unto me

Set your face toward Ammon, speak

Because you laughed when My house fell

Clapped your hands when Israel was shelled

You mocked the land, rejoiced in pain

You celebrated Judah’s chains

So I will hand you to the East

Your land will be another’s feast

Chorus

Because you said, “Aha!” in pride

When My people wept and died

You will know — when judgment runs

I am the Lord — the Holy One

Verse 2 — Against Moab

Moab said, “Judah’s just the same

No chosen people, no holy name”

They stripped My people of their call

Denied My covenant at all

So I will open Moab’s side

Expose her borders far and wide

Cities fall, defenses torn

Pride brought low — contempt reborn

Chorus

You denied what I declared

You said My people weren’t set apart

Now the truth you cast aside

Will stand revealed before your eyes

Verse 3 — Against Edom

Edom took revenge with hate

An ancient grudge they could not sate

They struck with sword, pursued with rage

And sealed their guilt from age to age

So I will stretch My hand once more

Make Edom waste from shore to shore

By Israel’s hand My wrath is shown

You will feel what you have sown

Verse 4 — Against Philistia

Philistia struck with lasting scorn

Old hostilities reborn

With hearts of vengeance, spite untamed

They sought to wipe out Judah’s name

So I will cut them off, says I

Destroy the remnant passing by

When vengeance falls and justice speaks

They’ll know the Lord whom none escapes

Final Chorus — Recognition Formula

When My vengeance is complete

And justice rises in the street

Then all the nations far and wide

Will know the Lord — the Righteous Judge
