God declares that His sword of judgment is drawn and ready to strike Jerusalem and Judah. Ezekiel is commanded to act out grief and terror, demonstrating the fear that will seize the people. The sword symbolizes Babylon’s invasion, which will not distinguish between righteous and wicked in its devastation.
The chapter includes a vision of the king of Babylon at a crossroads, divining which city to attack — and God sovereignly directs his choice toward Jerusalem. The chapter ends with the removal of Judah’s king and the promise that rulership will remain overturned until the rightful ruler comes.
The final promise — “until He comes whose right it is” — points directly to the Messiah. Though judgment removes earthly kings, God preserves the throne for Christ, the true King who will rule in righteousness.
Ezekiel 21
“The Sword Is Drawn”
Verse 1
The word of the Lord came sharp and clear,
“Son of man, set your face right here.
Cry out loud, let the warning run,
For judgment rises — the work’s begun.”
Pre-Chorus
A sword is drawn, unsheathed to strike,
Polished bright with deadly light.
Not turned back, not spared by plea,
It’s raised against both tree and tree.
Chorus
The sword is drawn, the blade is bare,
Cutting righteous and wicked there.
No delay now, the time is near,
Every heart must quake in fear.
All flesh will know when it is done:
I am the Lord — the Holy One.
Verse 2
Cry and groan with breaking heart,
Strike your thigh — play the prophet’s part.
For terror comes on every face,
Fear will empty strength and grace.
Pre-Chorus 2
“Tested blade, despising kings,
What rod can stand when judgment swings?
No scepter saves, no crown endures,
When God Himself the sword secures.”
Chorus
The sword is drawn, the blade is bare,
Cutting righteous and wicked there.
No delay now, the time is near,
Every heart must quake in fear.
All flesh will know when it is done:
I am the Lord — the Holy One.
Bridge (Crossroads Vision)
At the fork where the roads divide,
The king of Babylon decides.
Arrows shaken, idols read,
The right-hand road to Judah leads.
Verse 3 (Prince of Israel)
Remove the turban, take the crown,
Nothing stays the way it’s found.
Low made high and high brought low,
Until the One I choose shall go.
Final Chorus (Messianic Turn)
A sword may fall, a throne may shake,
But not forever — hear Me say.
I overturn till right appears,
To Him it comes — the crown He wears.
Outro / Anchor Line
The sword struck true — the word was kept,
Kings removed, the proud were swept.
Yet through the fall, one promise shone:
The rightful King will take His throne.
