Micah 6 opens as a covenant lawsuit. God calls creation itself as witness while He reminds Israel of His faithfulness — deliverance from Egypt, protection in the wilderness, and guidance into the promised land.
The people respond with a question rooted in misunderstanding: What offering is enough to satisfy God? They propose increasingly extreme acts of worship, revealing a belief that ritual can replace obedience.
God’s answer is simple and searching. What He desires is not excess sacrifice but transformed lives — justice toward others, mercy rooted in love, and humble fellowship with Him. The chapter closes by exposing continued injustice and warning that unrepented sin carries real consequences.
Micah 6 exposes humanity’s instinct to earn God’s favor rather than walk with Him. The impossible question — “What is enough?” — prepares the way for Christ, who becomes enough.
Jesus fulfills what Micah 6 requires:
perfect justice, lived mercy, and humble obedience before God.
Through Him, righteousness is not purchased by offerings,
but received by faith and then lived out in love.
Micah 6 — What Does the Lord Require?
Verse 1 — The Case Is Called
Hear what the Lord now says
Rise up — plead your case
Let the mountains hear your voice
Let the hills bear witness
Foundations of the earth stand still
Listen to the Lord’s complaint
For He has a case against His people
He will lay it plain
Chorus — My People
My people, what have I done to you?
How have I burdened you — answer Me
I brought you up from slavery
Redeemed you from captivity
I sent you leaders, set you free
My people — testify to Me
Verse 2 — Remember
Remember the road you walked
From bondage to the promised land
Remember Balak’s cursed intent
And Balaam’s words I overturned
From Shittim’s plains to Gilgal’s stone
So you would know, and never forget
The righteous acts of the Lord your God
Faithful — even yet
Pre-Chorus — The Question
With what shall I come before the Lord?
Bow low before the God Most High?
Burnt offerings? A thousand rams?
Rivers of oil passing by?
Chorus — Will This Be Enough?
Will this be enough to cover the cost?
Will this erase what I’ve lost?
Firstborn sons? Endless deeds?
Can ritual heal what’s broken in me?
Verse 3 — The Answer
He has shown you, O mortal one
What is good — what He requires
Not spectacle, not empty show
Not bloodless faith, not hollow fire
But to act justly in the land
To love mercy, steady and true
To walk humbly with your God
Every day — in all you do
Bridge — The City Hears
The Lord’s voice cries out to the city
Hear the rod — who appointed it
Dishonest scales, ill-gotten gain
Violence clothed in arrogance
You speak peace with double tongues
Your wealth is stained, your tables bare
You sow much — but reap so little
Because your heart is not there
Verse 4 — The Cost of Refusal
You will eat — but not be full
Store away — but lose your hold
What you save I’ll give to the sword
What you guard won’t last you long
You follow ways I never gave
Chase examples built on shame
Therefore ruin walks your streets
And scorn will mark your name
Final Chorus — What the Lord Requires
This is what the Lord requires
Act with justice — without delay
Love mercy — when it costs you
Walk humbly — every day
Not louder prayers or grand display
But faithful steps along the way
