After Abner’s death, Ish-Bosheth loses courage, and two Benjamite leaders—Rechab and Baanah—murder him while he rests, believing they are assisting David. They bring his head to David expecting reward, but David condemns their treachery and has them executed, refusing to establish his throne through bloodshed. David honors Ish-Bosheth with a proper burial, showing dignity even toward the fallen and the politically powerless. Through David’s refusal to condone injustice, God further prepares the way for a righteous and unified kingdom.

Foreshadowing of Christ: David’s refusal to seize power through evil foreshadows Christ, who advances His kingdom not by violence but by truth, mercy, and justice.
