Sheba, a troublemaker from Benjamin, stirs a new revolt, declaring, “We have no share in David!” Israel follows him, while Judah stays with the king. David appoints Amasa to gather the army, but when he delays, Joab takes command and treacherously kills Amasa. Sheba hides in Abel Beth Maakah, and Joab’s forces besiege the city. A wise woman negotiates peace, convincing her people to deliver Sheba’s head and spare the city. David’s kingdom is preserved, but the chapter reveals lingering fractures in leadership and the consequences of Joab’s violent ambition.
Foreshadowing of Christ: Sheba’s rebellion reflects humanity’s rejection of God’s King, while the wise woman’s peacemaking points to Christ, who brings peace not through violence but through sacrificial wisdom and truth.
