As David flees, Ziba arrives with supplies, claiming Mephibosheth has betrayed David—though later events show this was deceit. David, weary and vulnerable, accepts the report. Meanwhile, Shimei curses and pelts David with stones, calling him a man of blood, but David refuses Abishai’s offer to kill him, believing God may use even this humiliation for good. In Jerusalem, Absalom enters the city and follows Ahithophel’s wicked counsel by publicly lying with David’s concubines, symbolizing a complete break with his father. The contrast is stark—David humbled, trusting God, and Absalom exalting himself in pride. The stage is set for God’s judgment and deliverance.
Foreshadowing of Christ: David enduring shame and false accusation with humility mirrors Christ, who bore slander and suffering without retaliation, trusting the Father to vindicate Him.
