2 Samuel 13 recounts the heartbreaking beginning of the fracturing of David’s household. Amnon, driven by sinful desire, deceives and violates his sister Tamar, leaving her desolate and disgraced. Tamar’s brother Absalom takes her in, comforting her, while bitterness begins to take root. David is furious when he hears of the injustice but fails to take decisive action, deepening the wound. After two years of silent anger, Absalom arranges for Amnon’s death at a feast, avenging Tamar but planting the seeds of deeper rebellion. Absalom flees to Geshur, and David mourns for both sons, revealing the tangled consequences of sin within even God’s chosen family.
Foreshadowing of Christ: Where David’s household collapses under sin and injustice, Christ comes as the righteous King who heals the broken, defends the innocent, and brings true justice without corruption.
