David remains home while his armies fight, leading to temptation. He sees Bathsheba, sleeps with her, and attempts to cover the resulting pregnancy by recalling her husband Uriah from battle. But Uriah refuses to enjoy comfort while his fellow warriors remain in danger. Unable to hide his sin, David orders Uriah placed in the fiercest fighting and then abandoned to death. After the child is born, the chapter ends with the haunting truth: “But the thing David had done displeased the Lord.” This is the lowest point of David’s life, revealing the destructive power of unconfessed sin.
Foreshadowing of Christ: Where David fails through sin, Christ—the true Son of David—remains pure, faithful, and obedient, bringing life instead of death.
