David sends comfort to Hanun, the new king of Ammon, but Hanun humiliates David’s messengers out of suspicion. War erupts as Ammon hires Syrian armies. Joab and Abishai divide Israel’s forces and courageously place their trust in God—“May the Lord do what seems good to Him.” God brings victory as both Ammon and Syria flee before Israel. Through this conflict, God demonstrates His protection over David’s kingdom and exposes the cost of pride and misjudgment.
Foreshadowing of Christ: Israel’s victory through trust in God foreshadows the triumph believers have in Christ, who fights spiritual battles we cannot win alone.
